Ilona Dougherty is an award-winning social innovator and a regular commentator in the Canadian media who helps business, civil society and government understand how to tap into the unique abilities of young people.

Ilona is the Co-creator and Managing Director of the Youth & Innovation Project at the University of Waterloo. She has extensive leadership and governance experience, having co-founded and led several organizations including, at the age of 23 co-founding Apathy is Boring, a Canadian non-partisan social enterprise that educates youth about democracy and encourages them to vote.

Named one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada by the Women's Executive Network in 2015, Ilona was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, received a Global Ashoka Fellowship in 2009 and a Yukon Women’s Award at the age of 19.

Possibilities for Engagement with Indigenous Communities

This session will explore the importance of sincere relationship building, potential opportunities for support that may be beneficial to a community and a Rotary Club, and take a look to the future as relationships expand.  

Jess Tetu is a Canadian serial entrepreneur making waves across the country in the beauty and spa industry while making an impact on her community through her dedication to philanthropy! Overcoming adversity at a very young age, she began her adult life on her own at the age of 15 years old and through dedication, determination and hard work has become a national award winning philanthropist and entrepreneur.

Jessica is the sole owner of four Just For You Day Spas in Saskatchewan & Alberta, Founder & CEO of Lia Reese Canada, (Saskatchewan’s Beauty Brand), Co-Founder of Entrepreneur306 Mentorship & Consulting and Founder & CEO of 4seventyone Recovery Resources, a non-for-profit charity she created.

She was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, awarded the SK Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Community Leadership award, honoured with the YWCA Women of Distinction Award and most recently received one of Canada’s most coveted awards when she was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women.

Mental Wellness - "Healing through Relating"

Chris Beaudry was an assistant coach with the 2017/18 Humboldt Broncos, who were tragically involved in the bus crash that killed 16 players and staff. Since then, Chris has been heavily involved in the field of mental health and healing. He’s helped create the first online mental wellness course for students known as Mental Wellness 30 at the Distance Learning Center In Kenaston. He’s currently working with the Canadian Mental Health association in a Peer Support Role with Prairie Hospice as a volunteer hospice worker. He also contributes and facilitates a grief sharing group he created with his sister and a counsellor based around the teachings of Dr. Kubler Ross.

Sarah Harper-Johnston is a Master of Philosophy, Race, Ethnicity, and Conflict candidate at Trinity College Dublin and a Rotary Global Grant Scholar, Class of 2021. She is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer from Myanmar, alumnus from the American University of Paris, Class of 2017 and was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student in Denmark 2011/2012. She has extensive experience abroad, working with people from different cultures and speaks Danish, French and Myanmar (Burmese).

Big Daddy Tazz has been delighting crowds at fundraisers, corporate events, festivals and on television for more than a decade and a half. Known as the Bi-Polar Buddha, Tazz is equal parts comedian and motivational speaker who likes to enlighten, educate and inspire. 

Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in small-town Saskatchewan.  He actually swears he was born under the piano on the family farm, and since those ‘grand’ beginnings he’s gone on to perform over 100 shows per year across Canada, Europe and Latin America. 

Straker’s album “Dirt Road Confessional” reached #5 on the iTunes Canada singer-songwriter charts. It saw him debut at Canada’s National Arts Centre and perform live on BBC Radio in the UK.  Receiving a Western Canadian Music Award in 2019, he also received the Saskatchewan Music Award for Roots/Folk Artist of the Year in 2020. 

Forever grateful to Rotary, Jeffery is a former Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar.
